STEM Innovation Lab

NASA Goddard

NASA’s STEM Innovation Lab is a think tank with an emphasis on space science content applications. It brings together NASA scientists, engineers and educators to explore and develop new ideas related to infusion of educational technology into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) activities, programs, and approaches. It also provides users a platform to share their ideas, research and results.

Inside the lab are variety of interchangeable STEM exploration stations fitted with technologies typically found in many of today’s 21st century educational environments. By placing these stations in close proximity to each other, we encourage users to investigate how the technologies can be effectively blended together for greater impact and integration into NASA education programs and products.

EXPLORE. CREATE. SHARE!

Each exploration station is associated with one or more exploration idea profiles, which are provided by self-selected teams that use the technology for their projects or programs. Users may pick one or more stations to explore, read the profiles and investigate how new and existing technologies can be effectively blended together for a greater impact in STEM education.

Beyond replicating activities in the project profiles, users are encouraged to create new ideas that utilize existing and emerging technologies with NASA content to address the needs of their audience communities. New innovations will warrant new exploration idea profiles.

Once users generate ideas that are stimulated by the Lab, they may share them with educators, researchers and makerspace enthusiasts. A QR code at each station will help users find the web page for recording. Alternatively, they may drop a note or verbally share their feedback with staff members. Ultimately, new exploration idea profiles may stimulate existing and new users to spinoff other innovations. The Lab will offer advice to participants who wish to take their tested ideas to the next level by connecting them with partners and organizations who will help to transform their ideas into activities, projects or programs.
